Georges Melies lived in France from 1861 to 1938, where his fascination with cinematography (movie making) led to producing over 500 films and pioneering a number of effects still used in modern productions. Among the approximately 230 of his films still existing are several that touch or are based on astronomy subjects, including An Astronomer's Dream (1898), The Impossible Voyage (1904), and his most celebrated work, Voyage to the Moon (1902). The Eclipse (1907) is lesser known, but still demonstrates an amazing talent and active immagination.
